Chi Jingtao Met with Mexico’s Agriculture, Ranching, Fishing and Food Secretary Release Time : 2015-12-21

On December 8, COFCO Group Vice President Chi Jingtao met with Mexico´s Agriculture, Ranching, Fishing and Food Secretary Jose Calzada and his delegation at COFCO Fortune Plaza. Both sides exchanged views on possibilities of cooperation in agro-products, dairy products and processed foods.

Mr. Calzada noted that the establishment of Sino-Mexican comprehensive strategic partnership provides opportunities for the trade between two countries. Thanks to this macro framework, Mexico will export more products to the Chinese market. At present, China has become the second largest trading partner of Mexico, whose export volume to China has always maintained a high growth rate. Mr. Calzada hoped that his visit will raise COFCO’s awareness of types of Mexican grain trade with China and win COFCO’s support.

Chi Jingtao gave a briefing about COFCO Group’s agro-products business and noted that COFCO Group has become one of five major grain traders in the world and ranked first in terms of assets scale since its acquisition of Nidera and Noble Agri in 2014. As the grain trade between COFCO and Mexico is still in the startup phase, Mr. Chi hoped that both sides can seize the favorable opportunity generated by the meeting between China and Mexico’s heads of state so as to open a new chapter in the agricultural cooperation.

Both sides also held further exchanges over Mexico’s trade with China regarding white corn, meat, breeding and liquor.

Peng Anqiao, assistant to COFCO Group President, Julian Ventura Valero, Mexican Ambassador to China, Enrique Sanchez Cruz, director in chief of Mexico's National Service for Agro-alimentary Public Health, Safety, and Quality (SENASICA), Benjamin Grayeb Ruiz, president of the Consejo Nacional Agropecuario (CNA), and Terminel, chairman of Terra Wealth Trader also attended the meeting.
